Lut Desert
The Lut desert is divided into three sections: The North Lut, the Central Lut, and the South Lut. The highest temperature was taken from the central Lut and the lowest point of the desert is about 190 meters below sea level. There is a mountain bordering the western side of the desert that traces of life from 4 thousand BC was found from its cave which proves that the area was inhabited by humans. Today the most populated area of the desert is Shahdad, previously known as Khabiz, which has been turned to a tourist destination in recent years. The many attractions of the desert have turned them to a popular tourism spot, attractions like the cloddish town, sand pyramids, volcanic cones, lava plains, waving sand plains, Nebkas and the camel fields where the soil looks as if a caravan of camels have passed and their footprints are left. Adding to all these, the beautiful night of the desert with numerous stars creates an opportunity for astronomy lovers to enjoy the view. In the 40th session of the World Heritage Committee, the Lut desert was registered by UNESCO.
