Rayen fort

Second biggest adobe construct of the world

Second biggest adobe construct of the world, after Bam citadel, this fort covers an area of 22 thousand square meters. It is located over a hill and dates back to the Sassanid era. Records are remarking on this place as early as the 7th century, and the name of other forts in the same area are mentioned that were destroyed completely and nothing has remained of them. The fort is surrounded by defensive walls flanked with garrets and despite several natural disasters, it is severely well preserved. There is only one entrance to the construct, through a beautifully decorated portal on the east side of the fort. The castle was inhabited during Qajar eras and that is one of the reasons it is in part good shape. The existence of a waterfall, a mountain, fruit gardens, mines of green and pink marble, and several thermal springs turns this fort to a great destination.
