Ganj Nameh

Literary translated as “Treasure Book”, the cuneiform inscriptions of this place were believed to be a treasure map and therefore the name treasure book was used to refer to this place. the two inscriptions that date back to the Achaemenian era were made by the order of Darius the Great and his son Xerxes. In the time of Achaemenian, the royal road that connected Ecbatana to Babylon passed through Hamedan and naturally, kings found it a suitable place to leave a message for all to see. Each inscription is written in three columns of 20 lines and three languages of Old Persian, Elamite, and New Babylonian. Both inscriptions have the same theme, and only the names are changed. Darius in his inscription, praise Ahura Mazda the creator of all (earth, sky, people and happiness) and announces that he is Darius the king of kings, the king of the land of many nations, and the son of Vishtasp. Xerxes’s inscription has the same content, with the difference of names, Darius is replaced with Xerxes and Vishtasp is replaced with Darius.
