Masjid-e Sheikh Lotf Allah

Built during the reign of Shah Abbas, the mosque was dedicated to king’s father-in-law, Sheikh Lotf Allah, a known scholar of Islam who was in charge of the Royal Mosque and theological school. The delicate cream-colored tiles that change color under the sun, the turquoise mosaic of portals and dooms, the unique architectural style of the mosque, and the beautiful muqarnas of the Portal, give this mosque a beauty unseen anywhere else.

Lack of minaret, courtyard, and the existence of stairs at the entrance gives the idea that this place was made for the private use of the king’s Harem. The prayer hall is reached by twisting hallways where the eye becomes accustomed to the darkness. The prayer hall is lavishly adorned by tile works and mosaics.
